A fire erupted in a Saylani Welfare Trust mobile blood donation unit outside its blood bank and thalassaemia centre near Disco Bakery in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Wednesday.

A child, undergoing blood transfusion, sustained minor injuries during the incident, while other children, their parents and staff members were evacuated from the thalassaemia centre immediately.

According to Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO Safdar Mashwani, the blood bank's staff first tried to extinguish the blaze on their own, but the fire spread and engulfed the entire truck as well as a motorcycle parked nearby.

Meanwhile, a fire tender that was present at nearby Maskan Chowrangi arrived at the site after the incident was reported. The fire-fighters then extinguished the flames.

SHO Mashwani stated that as per the initial investigation, the blaze had erupted due to a short circuit in the truck, which was used to collect blood donations.

The injured child was shifted to a hospital.

More blazes erupt

Meanwhile, flames erupted in a garment factory near Vita Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area late on Tuesday night.

A fire tender arrived and doused the blaze within half an hour.

Some of the cloth kept inside the factory was burnt to ashes, while the cause of the fire could not be ascertained until the filing of this report.

Separately, a garbage dump near Charagh Hotel in Landhi also caught fire.

The flames soon engulfed the cabins and bushes present nearby due to strong winds. Fire-fighters arrived there after being informed and extinguished the fire.
