The provincial government has suspended officials of the Communication and Works Department over irregularities in a road construction in Orakzai district.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Communication and Works (C&W) Department in a statement on Wednesday said that upon the directives of K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, an inquiry was launched into anomalies in the construction and black topping of Ghorgarh road in Orakzai district. As many as four officials were suspended after the probe, it stated. Departmental proceedings were in progress against suspended officials.

The suspended officials including Assistant Director Shaukatullah, Engineer Azmatullah , Sub-Divisional Officer Ibadullah, and Sub Engineer Raj Muhammad.

The chief minister in a statement said that transparency would be ensured in all departments and corruption would not tolerated. Meanwhile, the chief minister has directed the district administrations to take strict action against the illegal mining activities across the province.

CM Mahmood said that people involved in illegal mining would be dealt with iron hands. Following the chief minister’s directives, Swabi and Nowshera district administrations have arrested scores of people involved in illegal mining and theft of mineral resources.
