LAHORE:

To pay homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defence of the motherland in the war of 1965, special prayers were offered throughout the province in mosques on Sunday.

A special change of guard ceremony was also held at the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

Punjab Tourism Department released a special short documentary on the eve of Defence Day to pay tribute to martyrs of the 1965 war.

Meanwhile, the Lahore district administration celebrated the Defence Day by organising a flag hoisting ceremony at the Town Hall.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, in a special message on the occasion, said the nation salutes the brave sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives for the protection of the country.

“The memories of martyrs, who laid their lives in 1965 war, are still alive in the hearts of the people. They had rendered invaluable sacrifices for guarding their homeland,” he added.

He also expressed solidarity with the Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom from Indian aggression.

On the other hand, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that if India conspires against Pakistan again, it will only end up harming itself.

He warned that the enemies will be defeated by the military just like 1965.

Speaking to the media after the flag hoisting ceremony held at the Akhuwat University, he said 220 million Pakistanis stand behind the armed forces.

The governor also reminded the nation of how the Pakistan Air Force destroyed Indian war planes when they crossed the border on February 27, 2019.

Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said the whole nation is indebted to the soldiers who make the borders secure.

“Today we also reiterate our commitment to support our Kashmiri brethren in their struggle for freedom from the illegal Indian occupation,” he expressed his resolve on behalf of the nation.

Remembering the services rendered by the armed forces, Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan pointed out that despite numerical superiority the enemy lost the war as the Pakistani nation possessed matchless enthusiasm and courage to defeat them.
