Negating the earlier announcements of the tenures of local government representatives ending on August 28 (Friday) in Sindh, sources in the Election Commission of Pakistan revealed on the day that the tenures would actually come an end Saturday (today), on August 29, at midnight.

The previous date was announced by outgoing Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar and sources in the Sindh government.

Local government representatives currently holding positions in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), including the mayor, deputy mayor, six district municipal corporation (DMC) chairpersons, DMC deputy chairpersons and district councils' chairpersons and deputy chairpersons, took oath in August, 2016, after they secured victories in local government elections in September, 2015.

Besides them, other administrators of the KMC, the city's six DMCs, three municipal corporations, 36 municipal committees, 148 town committees, 24 district councils, 1,175 union councils and 351 union committees will be stepping down from their posts.

A notification regarding the end of the tenure of local government representatives and the appointment of new administrators will be issued by the Sindh Local Government Department.
