HARIPUR:

At least four members of a family, including a woman and three children, were killed when a fire erupted in their house in Wapda colony.

Rescue officials said that on Friday afternoon, they had received reports of a fire at a house, owned by Sardar Shahzad and located in the Sobra City of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Colony in Haripur. Shahzad is a Wapda employee and was not at home when the blaze erupted.

The firefighters said that they managed to put the blaze out but not before the fire had consumed the house and its occupants.

Rescue workers said that they had retrieved four bodies from the wreckage of the house including Nageena bibi, her children Abaan and Hamza along with niece Hurriya. The children were between three and seven years of age.

Their charred bodies were shifted to the Ghazi Civil Hospital where after identification and other medico-legal procedures, they were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard in Nathiagali.

Locals claimed that the fire allegedly erupted due to a short circuit in the rustic wires of the house.

They demanded that Wapda replace the old wires used in the colony.
