KARACHI:

The father of a female doctor, who committed suicide on August 18 in Defence Housing Society, told the police on Thursday that she had been drugged and raped.

The police registered a case against three suspects on M*'s father's complaint and arrested one of them.

According to the father, his son and younger daughter told him after M's funeral in Mirpurkhas that she had befriended a man, Junaid Khan, for four years. "Khan got her addicted to cocaine and alcohol," he claimed. "He used to humiliate her among friends and even tortured her."

He added that Khan had once broken her teeth, and also invited M to his house and raped her after giving her drugs.

M's father further claimed that she later met another man, Tabish Qureshi, who had proposed to her, but Khan found out and started threatening her.

He narrated that his daughter disclosed her ordeal to another friend, dentist Dr Irfan Qureshi, who took advantage of the situation, called her to his home clinic and tried to molest her after giving her drugs.

He went on to state that M left and informed her family that Khan, Dr Irfan, Waqas Hasan Naqvi and two others were blackmailing her, threatening to humiliate and kill her and her family.

"She said she would kill herself and those who had tortured her and made her life miserable would be responsible," her father told the police, seeking legal action against those nominated in the case.

In light of the father's statement, the police first registered the case and then arrested one of the suspects, Dr Irfan.

It is pertinent to mention here that Tabish, who gave M the weapon she used to kill herself, and Saad Siddiqui, who owned the pistol, were previously arrested by the police.
