K-P mulls supplying water to Khyber from Kabul River

CM aide says the scheme will ensure water supply to Shalman, Landikotal for next 30 years

The provincial government is considering to establish a water supply scheme in Khyber district utilising the water from Kabul River.

Special Assistant to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chief minister for Public Health Engineering Riaz Khan disclosed this as chaired a meeting on Thursday.

The meeting discussed a project for provision of water to Shalman and Landikotal areas of Khyber district from Kabul River.

The special assistant said that the scheme would ensure uninterrupted supply of water to the residents of these areas for next three decades. It was a longstanding issue of the people of the district and with this scheme it would be resolved, he informed.

He directed for finalising the paperwork and feasibility report of the project so that it could be presented to relevant forums for approval.

Khan added that facilitating people of the merged areas was top priority of both the federal and provincial governments.

He further said that more such schemes of water supply would be initiated in different parts of the merged districts.

The meeting was attended by the Public Health Engineering Secretary Baramand Khan, Chief engineer Abdul Latif, Superintendent Engineer Qaiser Zaman and other officials.
