PESHAWAR:

At least six police officials from the provincial capital have been served notices after complaints were filed against them on the Pakistan Citizens Portal.

On the directives of the Prime Minister Imran Khan, the performance of the provincial police force is being reviewed and a report of the complaints filed on the portal against police officials has been drafted by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Inspector General Sanaullah Abbasi. The report read that complaints were submitted against Cantonment, Gulbahar, and Hayatabad circle DSPs. The IG has issued show-cause notices to these officials and has sought an explanation from them. A source familiar with the development said that the show-cause notices were issued for their unsatisfactory performance and unprofessional conduct.

These officials have been warned of strict action if they fail to submit explanations.

Muharram security measures

As many as 2,600 additional police personnel will be deployed in the provincial capital to maintain security for Muharram processions and congregations.

A statement issued in this regard said that 2,600 cops from Swat, Chitral, Shangla and Upper Dir districts have been deployed in the provincial capital. The provincial government aims to deploy a total of 8,000 police personnel across Peshawar for security until Ashura.

As part of the enhanced security measures, the police department will set up additional check posts while conducting snap checking across the city, especially near the sensitive areas. Patrolling in the sensitive areas of the provincial capital has already begun to ensure peace during Muharram.

Meanwhile, CCPO Ali Ganndapur, SSP Operations Mansoor Aman visited the walled city areas. They inspected the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera control room set up at the Khan Raziq police station. They also reviewed the security of imambargahs, mosques, and other places.
