The provincial government has extended its integrated health project for another three years.
However, the immunisation programme has been excluded from the project.
Sources in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Health Department have informed The Express Tribune that the Lady Health Workers Programme, the Extended Programme on Immunisation (EPI), Nutrition Programme and the MNCH programmes were integrated under a single wide-ranging project.
The projects were integrated to make these facilities accessible for mothers and newborns apart from strengthening the programme at the provincial and district levels to improve overall service delivery.

Sources further said that the EPI has now been separated from other integrated programmes.
But with the programme to remain active for the foreseeable future, the health department has decided to recruit 500 regular vaccinators.
Under the integrated health project, the provincial government has allocated Rs8 billion, of which Rs2 billion will be spent this year. Moreover, at least 85 centres which provide basic obstetric services to women have been established under the project.Funds released to MTI hospitals
