The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday issued notices in a case related to the salary and benefits of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Education Department employee Mian Abdul Syed. A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Monday heard the case. During Monday’s hearing, Justice Ijazul Ahsan noted that the petitioner was jailed for murder from 2012 to 2017, and that he did not work during this time. At this, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that in 2017, the Mingora bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had acquitted his client. At this, Justice Ahsan said that when he was acquitted in 2017, he was re-employed. However, since he did not work for five years, why should he be paid salaries and benefits for this period. The petitioner’s lawyer said that when an FIR was registered against his client, the education department suspended him. Justice Ahsan noted that even if the department did not suspend him, the petitioners could not work because he was in jail.
