KARACHI:

The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Corporate Crime Circle foiled a smuggling bid to transport 170 kilogrammes of anaesthetic injections during an operation in Hussainabad on Sunday.

The joint operation by the FIA and federal drug inspectors led to the recovery of anaesthetic injections being hidden in a container meant to be transporting rice.

FIA Karachi director Munir Ahmed Sheikh revealed that the seized ketamine injections were worth around $510,000. He further stated that the injections, which are normally used as anaesthesia for patients, were also used for intoxication. He added that 170 packages of the injections had been hidden between the rice.

Meanwhile, FIA assistant director Rauf Sheikh further revealed that the consignment was being sent to Belgium by a fake company called MS Tedic Trading, based in Sialkot.

A suspect, Dawoodur Rehman, was arrested, while his accomplice, Hafizur Rehman, remains at large. According to the FIA, the Belgian government has requested details regarding the smuggling gang.
