FAISALABAD:

As many as 21 out of 27 traffic signals in the city are dysfunctional and most of the appliances and solar energy plates have also been stolen.

Reportedly, the traffic wardens are forced to stand under dysfunctional traffic signals in the scorching heat while they run the traffic system.

Despite numerous requests from traffic police officials, municipal corporation officials have not taken interest in repair of the traffic signals.

Another letter was sent to the commissioner by the chief traffic officer (CTO) for repairing the signals and installation of nine new traffic signals.

The traffic signals have been installed at 27 places in the city by the district administration and municipal corporation officials.

Hazard in the making: A new year with no traffic lights?

It is the responsibility of the municipal corporation to oversee the traffic operation, but out of the 27 places, the traffic signals installed at 21 spots were dysfunctional.

The signals on Satiana Road Gitanwala Chowk, Susan Road Chowk from Jaranwala Road, Babar Cinema Chowk towards Jhang Road and Chenab Club Chowk towards GTS Chowk have been partially dysfunctional.

Traffic signals installed on Sitara Tower Chowk, Minarwa Club Chowk, Zafar Ali Mor Chowk, Gulberg Chowk, Koh-e-Noor Chowk and Radio Station Chowk are operational.
