RAWALPINDI: Police in Rawalpindi has claimed to have arrested the alleged ringleader of a gang which killed two policemen at a picket in Islamabad last month.

Rawalpindi police officials said that the suspect had been arrested from Taxila. Later, during interrogation, the suspect allegedly disclosed the names of his accomplices as well. The Rawalpindi police shared this information with the Islamabad Police who arrested three suspects.

Police, however, have refused to disclose the identities of the suspects at this point, stating that investigations are ongoing.

The police officials said that all the suspects are known criminals and confessed to committing robberies and mugging in different areas of the garrison city.

The officials added that if the Islamabad Police so requests, the suspect will be handed over to their counterparts in the federal capital.

The suspects had opened fire at a police picket in the Tarnol area of Islamabad on May 26, killing ASI Mohsin Zafar and Head Constable Muhammad Sajjad.
