ISLAMABAD: The apex regulator of medical education and professionals in the country was on Friday stopped from taking action against two private medical colleges, as far as their students are concerned, until the next hearing of the case.

This was directed by a single-member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), comprising Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, in a three-page written order on a petition filed by two private medical colleges whose registration had been approved by the now-defunct Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

PMDC asks medical colleges to follow admission quota

The order was issued for hearings in the case held two days ago. Justice Aurangzeb directed the inspection teams of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to visit the two private medical colleges and check the quality and make a final decision about the colleges whether they could be approved or not.

According to the order, PMDC's lawyer had told the court that after the PMC was dissolved, all decisions of the commission were declared as null and void by the court, after which the medical colleges - which had been approved by the PMC - were no longer recognised. A lawyer for colleges had contended that the PMC had approved their college and after its dissolution, the college was placed in a list pending review from the council.
