Speaking at a seminar titled “Pakistan Furniture Export 2020”, PFC Chairman Mian Kashif Ashfaq said Pakistan needeed policies to protect the furniture sector so that the industry could grow in a proper manner.
“Currently, we cannot compete with the Chinese market because of its prices, which is largely due to the availability of skilled labour,” he added.
The PFC chairman pointed out that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Commerce Adviser Abdul Razak Dawood had assured him of all possible support and incentives to strengthen the furniture sector.
Stressing the need for financial support, he said there was a dire need for funds to provide labourers with skills training and to upgrade the machinery with a view to boosting the labour-intensive sector. He also sought the status of the industry for the furniture sector to boost its exports.
