Ellen Pompeo blasts news outlet for its coverage of Bryant's death

She likened TMZ's approach about breaking news as 'emotional abuse'

Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo has raised her voice against the seemingly unethical reportage of NBA legend Kobe Bryant's deadly crash, reported E! News.

Known for being vocal about issues in the industry and in general, Pompeo took to  Twitter to specifically call out TMZ. 

TMZ was the first news outlet to break the news of the fatal crash in Calabasas, California, that claimed nine lives including Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter. According to reports, they ran the news before the families of those involved were informed.

Explicitly naming the force behind TMZ Harvey Levin, Pompeo tweeted, "I wonder why police departments give @HarveyLevinTMZ all this sensitive info?"

She went on to call him out on his coverage of assault stories as well, writing, "I wonder why @HarveyLevinTMZ puts out photos of women who have been attacked or assaulted. Who were victims? Exploiting women who have been abused. Why is this guy still in business at all?"

The acclaimed actor continued her tirade in a series of tweets, following her earlier one with, "If we are not tolerating abuse anymore, shouldn't we be calling this out?" Likening TMZ's approach about breaking news to 'emotional abuse' she added, "I call time's up on his behaviour."

She not only called out the outlet but also chimed in with her theories about how they might be getting hold of sensitive information so easily. "Steady streams of info come from steady streams of cash maybe? Just a question?," she wrote.

She also alleged that some airline employees are paid to have paparazzi around. "Let me tell you, there are very specific airlines who always have paps and very specific ones that don't," she said.

The fatal crash is currently under investigation, and Bryant's widow also broke her silence on the tragedy this morning in the form of an Instagram post. “My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time," wrote Vanessa.
