George Clooney feels he’s being unfairly blamed in the heated blame game over who might have cost Kamala Harris the election and has decided to step back from politics.
The 63-year-old Hollywood actor supported Harris by writing a strong op-ed explaining why he believed Joe Biden’s campaign would cost Democrats the win unless he stepped aside, but this effort didn’t stop Donald Trump from achieving a historic victory.
Since then, Clooney has faced criticism from Democrats, with some alleging he played a role in Harris' defeat.
The Oscar-winner is reportedly ‘disheartened’ by this criticism, with sources saying he delayed endorsing Harris because he thought the Democrats should have paused to consider their options.
“George feels that the backlash he is getting for Kamala losing is not at all warranted,” a source shared with DailyMail.com exclusively. “He thinks it is completely unfair to try and make him a scapegoat for her loss."
The source added, “He has backed the Democratic Party and invested so much time and money into them, but he is going to take a step back for now. He feels very disheartened.”
They continued, "When he wrote his op-ed, George did not say 'Biden is not fit to be president choose Kamala.' The Democrats jumped on Kamala and within days she was the candidate."
Clooney believes that Democrats should have taken more time to assess their choices, which is why he didn’t endorse her immediately.
Trump made a remarkable return to the White House on Wednesday and currently holds 295 electoral votes.
In July, the Ocean's Eleven actor wrote a scathing op-ed for the *New York Times*, urging Biden to step down from the race and asserting, “We are not going to win in November with this president."
This op-ed was published just weeks after Clooney raised $30 million for Biden's re-election campaign at a fundraiser.
A few weeks later, Clooney expressed support for Harris in her “historic quest” and thanked Biden for “saving Democracy” by giving up his place in the race for his Vice President.
However, this decision has been criticized by some Democrats, who have remarked, "It's all George Clooney's fault!"
