PESHAWAR: The Rashakai Prioritised Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) is expected to create as many as 50,000 direct and 150,000 indirect jobs and opportunities for trade and export to the central Asian markets through the Torkham corridor.

In this regard, the board of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) has recommended that an agreement for PSEZ should be developed by the Federal Board of Investment (BOI).

In a meeting of the SEZA board this week, it was stressed that the Rashakai PSEZ is being focused on in the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Rashakai has already been awarded the status of SEZ by the BOI through a notification issued in September 2019.

The Project Concept-I (PC-I) for the provision of electricity and gas in the zone has already been approved by the Power and Petroleum Division. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zone Development Management Company (K-PEZDMC) had also commenced work on the construction of access road to the zone.

Saif private SEZ was also recommended by the K-P SEZA to the BOI for approval.
