KARACHI: A five-year-old boy was killed and his brother and aunt were injured following an armed attack at a house in Gharibabad, near Jamali Goth, early Friday morning.

According to Sohrab Goth Police, armed men broke into a house in Gharibabad, looking for a person identified as Taj Muhammad, but opened fire on his two sons and sister-in-law instead. They later fled the scene, the police said.

The victims were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where one of the boys, Wajid, succumbed to his injuries. The injured have been identified as Yasin, 4, and Shazia, 25.

Wajid had sustained a bullet wound in the head, said Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Medico-Legal Officer Khalid Abbasi, adding that Yasin was shot in the face and Shazia in the abdomen. He said that Yasin’s condition was critical and he was to be shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Meanwhile, East District SSP Tanveer Alam Odho said that the attack was carried out over personal enmity and the victims’ family hailed from Shahdadkot. He said an investigation of the matter was underway.

Muhammad’s father, Achar, said that Muhammad had killed his uncle in Shahdadkot a year ago. “Muhammad has gone into hiding since then,” he said. Achar accused his deceased brother’s sons, Nawab and Dildar, of perpetrating the attack. “When they couldn’t find him, they shot others present at the hous,” added Achar.

Achar’s daughter, Moomal, an eyewitness to the attack, also identified Nawab and Dildar as the assailants.
