LAHORE: Astrologers are of the view that today’s annular solar eclipse has brought a raft of problems to Pakistan.

The last annular solar eclipse was witnessed back in 1999 and viewers are all set to go in for a treat on Thursday as they will be able to marvel upon a ring of fire.

Astrologists say the eclipse’s negative effects become apparent 15 days before and after the event.

When astrology expert Sayed Musaddiq Zanjani was asked about the eclipse, he said that domestic and societal lives are affected by it.

“The eclipse even has effects on newborns, and pregnant women must stay inside their homes while it takes place, so as to stay safe,” he said.

He also claimed the worsening situation in Pakistan was due to the eclipse. “These effects began after December 10,” he claimed, adding that the PIC tragedy in Lahore and the death penalty awarded to former military dictator Pervez Musharraf were all caused due to the eclipse.

This, however, has been strongly refuted by not only scientists but also religious scholars.

Mian Ajmal, the Director of Punjab Meteorological Department, told The Express Tribune that the eclipse would commence at 7:30am in Pakistan.

Ajmal said the eclipse would reach its peak at 8:37am, adding, “It will end at 1:06 pm.”

He said the solar eclipse takes place when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the Sun for a viewer on Earth.

Ajmal said the sun emits dangerous rays during an eclipse.
While religious scholars say the Sun and Moon are all signs of Allah, and have neither positive or negative effects on anybody.

Dr Raghab Naeemi, head of the Jamia Naemia and a member of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), says,” The Sun and Moon are signs of Allah and that eclipses can do no harm to humans.”
