QUETTA: Government school teachers sacked in Balochistan’s Kech district have claimed that they were fired so that the leaders of the province’s ruling party, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), in the area could have relatives appointed in their place.

Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, Nida Anwar, one of the teachers, said the education secretary had sacked 114 teachers on a report prepared by District Education Officer Ayaz Akhtar, who was earlier a “clerk at the Kech District Commissioner’s Office”.

“Ayaz Akhtar, who faces corruption charges, was illegally promoted by BAP leaders in Kech so that he could have 114 teachers fired and their relatives appointed in their place,” she added.

“The teachers were sacked without being given any explanation by the education secretary.”

The teacher said the secretary’s move was unconstitutional and against the rules and regulations of the education department.
