Farmers fear floods, avoid cultivating land

A rise in the prices of fruits and vegetables in the month of Ramazan is expected.

Farmers in various districts of interior Sindh, including Sukkur, are anticipating this year’s floods to cause damage similar to last year’s floods. This has kept them from cultivating vegetables and fruits, Express News reported Saturday.

The land between Sukkur and Guddu Barrage – Kachay – which spreads to thousands of acres, remains uncultivated and barren.

Because of this, a rise in prices of fruits and vegetables in the month of Ramazan is expected.

The vegetables mostly grown in Kachay – tomatoes, okras, green chilies, squash, bitter gourd – were distributed across the country, whereas, fruits like melon and strawberries were also cultivated on a large scale in this area.
