Lawmakers pass resolution against child labour

Decide to take up gas pressure issue on Nov 21

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution calling for the provision of quality education and nourishment to children and taking measures to stop child labour and abuse.

The resolution was moved on Monday by Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) lawmaker Nasarullah Zayrai.  Taking the floor, Zayrai said Article 35 of the Constitution assures and guarantees the rights of the child.

“Pakistan is also a signatory of the United Nations Convention of 1990 regarding child protection and security,” he added. Speaking on the resolution, Bushra Rind said the growing number of rape and child abuse cases is a matter of great concern.

“We must have to take initiatives to stop such kind of violence against innocent children. The basic purpose of bringing a joint resolution is to give a clear message that the entire society and people of Pakistan are unified against such kind of immoral and inhuman practices,” Rind said.

Qadir Nayal of Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) moved an adjournment motion on low gas pressure in Hazara Town, Brewery Road and other areas of the Quetta city and sought discussion on the crisis.

“The citizens are facing great difficulty due to low gas pressure in winters,” he said. The house later adopted the adjournment motion and decided to debate the issue on November 21.

On the brutal killing of a young boy, Syed Ghousullah, by abductees, Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Zia Ahmed Langove said it is a test case for the home department and investigation agencies.

“Police, law enforcement and security agencies have been working day and night and very soon the culprits will be apprehended,” he said.

The amended draft bill regarding salaries, perks and allowances of the chief minister and provincial ministers was also tabled in the house.

The draft bill with the amendment was referred to the concerned subcommittee of the house for further discussion and improvement. Mahjabeen Sheeran presented the draft bill in the house.

Balochistan Health Care Commission Bill 2019 was also tabled in the house. Later Balochistan Assembly Deputy Speaker Sardar Babar Moosakhel postponed the assembly session till November 21.
