LAHORE: The first contingent of the Punjab Tourist Police has been deployed at the Kartarpur Border in Narowal.

Inspector General of Punjab Police Arif Nawaz, who was speaking as a chief guest at the ceremony in Narowal on Thursday, said the police are trying their best to promote the soft image of the country by providing security and guidance to tourists. Therefore, the tourist police are kicking off their duties from the Kartarpur Corridor to facilitate Sikh pilgrims and tourists.

The officials of the tourist police squad were inducted by the Punjab Highway Patrol wing (PHP). The squad underwent one-month training under the supervision of Additional IG Training Tariq Masood Yasin.

Police to spend millions on renovation work

The IGP said that after the Kartarpur Corridor, the ambit of the tourist police would be increased to Murree, Fort Monroe and Nankana Sahib. The first contingent of tourist police started from Narowal and it consists of 100 personnel trained at Police College Lahore for crime-fighting and public dealing. They are equipped with the latest equipment and would ride heavy bikes. The tourist police would also provide legal assistance to visiting Sikh pilgrims if required.

Nawaz said that in the last decade, terrorism adversely affected tourism in Pakistan. Due to the sacrifices of armed forces, provincial police forces and Rangers have been restored and tourists across the world are visiting Pakistan.

The IGP also visited Darbar Sahib Kartarpur to review security arrangements for the opening ceremony to be held on November 9.
