Director of Emergency at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center Seemi Jamali said the 45-year-old Muhammad Saleem, a resident of Surjani Town, had been bitten six weeks ago.
She added that he received the bite wounds trying to protect her daughter from the stray dog.
Saleem, who is a father of six and the sole bread winner, was bitten on both hands and was in hospital for the last week.

The victim's brother Amir claimed that he died as the vaccine was not available.
The victim was first taken to the Sindh Government Hospital in New Karachi and then to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Abbasi Shaheed Hospital released the patient after administering half of the vaccine's dose brought from outside.
Last month, a 23 people were hospitalised after being bitten by a rabid female dog in Karachi's Federal Capital (FC) Area.
