No escape from accountability: Sarwar

He says country is on track of progress and prosperity

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar said on Tuesday that the opposition wanted to stage protests to escape accountability, but there would be no compromise on transparency.

He expressed these views while speaking to a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which was led by Punjab Minister for Women Development Ashifa Riaz, PTI MNA Riaz Fatyana, Mian Hamid Miraj and others at the Governor House.

The governor said past rulers did nothing to overcome challenges faced by the country, including inflation and unemployment. He said that their poor policies caused huge economic losses to the country.

“But the PTI government, after coming into power, put comprehensive measures in place to raise the living standards of people. The elaborate policies of the government saved the country from possible economic default,” he added.

He said it was unfortunate to see that the opposition could not “digest the PTI government's effective initiatives” for the welfare of the people.

He added this was the reason the opposition was planning to create unrest and instability in the country through protests and sit-ins.

“With the support of the people, the government will foil all conspiracies of the opposition. The people rejected the opposition during the 2018 General Elections and they would again discard the opposition's agenda of protest,” he maintained.

He said the PTI government was determined to rid the country of corruption at any cost, besides steering it out of all crises. The governor maintained that the current regime was striving to further strengthen democracy, parliament and other national institutions. Chaudhry Sarwar said the PTI government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, had initiated a number of programmes for the provision of healthcare and education facilities to the people. He added all the promises made by the PTI during its electoral campaign, including the provision of employment to the youth, would be fulfilled.
