ISLAMABAD: As incidents of street crime and robberies show no sign of slowing down, police in the federal capital have analysed data pertaining to criminal activity, mapping it and then adjusting their patrols accordingly.

This was disclosed by the federal police on Tuesday.

A senior police official, who did not wish to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the media, stated that all SPs have been directed by Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar to ensure the implementation of the patrolling and security plans.

He said that officials mapped the locations and the timing of criminal incidents in the federal capital. Based on the criminal pattern that had subsequently emerged, he stated that they took effective steps to curb crime.

In this regard, he said that some 22 pickets have been set up in the city while as many as 420 policemen and paramilitary Rangers have been deputed to ensure effective security in the city.

Moreover, he said that mobile police pickets or checking points have been set up in various areas of the city for high vigilance and effective checking.

These halting points and pickets would help to keep an eye over suspicious activity and vehicles to curb criminal activities, he added.
