Minister vows to promote research work at varsities

Pledges state-of-the-art research department at King Edward Medical University

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid said the government would promote the latest technology at all medical institutions.

She expressed these views during the 10th Senate Session King Edward Medical University (KEMU). She announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art research department in King Edward Medical University.

KEMU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, Additional Secretary Finance, HEC Member Prof Asad Aslam Khan, all senate and faculty members were also there. KEMU vice chancellor presented the annual budget in this session. The health minister also approved some development projects.

Lauding the vice chancellor, Dr Yasmeen Rashid said Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, the quality of research would reflect the performance of the university.

Minister pledges health reforms

“We all should stand for the upright of the country. This historic university deserves worldwide recognition,” she said. “Research students should be given more importance. Record doctors are recruited in our government.”

The health minister said research papers of the medical university should be given worldwide importance and appreciation. “We should introduce global level nursing here. KEMU should run an efficient nursing project. We will promote the latest technology in all medical institutions. Training of nurses should be according to the modern parameters,” she remarked.

She said the university should promote outreach activities. Students of these medical institutions should feel proud.

She said the availability of the best health facilities must be ensured through the referral system. “We added more than 20,000 beds in the private sector for patients through Sehat Insaf Card. Availability of best health facilities to the patients is our first priority. Patients should have trust in the complete hospital environment.”

Professors should teach students for the best public service. No, any patient should go back from and public hospital due to the rough attitude of doctors and the unavailability of medical facilities.

Students should be given a lesion of research from the start. Research culture in medical institutions will be promoted on a government level. Prime Minister Imran Khan has the vision to bring change in every sector. This real change will become through our behaviour.
