ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday had a telephonic conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and apprised the royal on the current situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

The contact between Islamabad and Riyadh comes at a time when the lockdown in occupied Kashmir nears a month after India's illegal and unilateral August 5 move.

"During the call, they reviewed relations between the two countries and the latest developments in the region," read a press release issued by the Saudi Press Agency.

PM Imran, Saudi crown prince discuss IoK situation

PM Imran has made contact with MBS multiple times in the wake of India's Kashmir move. He called the Saudi crown prince last week too, hours after US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.

The meeting saw Trump, more or less, backtrack on his earlier offer to mediate between Pakistan and India on Kashmir.

Qureshi telephones Turkey, Iceland foreign ministers

FM Qureshi telephoned his Turkish and Iceland counterparts on Tuesday to apprise them about the situation in occupied Kashmir.

In his conversation with Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusolgu, he said the situation was worsening by the day and there was a crippling shortage of food and medicines.

He said the people of occupied Kashmir are looking towards the international community, especially the Muslim world.

Qureshi appreciated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for raising his voice in support of Kashmiris.

Both foreign ministers agreed to meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and OIC meetings, and to strengthen ties between the two states.

Earlier in the day, Qureshi telephoned Iceland's Foreign Minister Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson

Gudlaugur expressed his concern over the brutalities faced by the people of Kashmir and emphasised the need to peacefully resolve the situation.

Qureshi reiterated the need for international powers to stop India's human rights violation in the occupied region. He added that international media should expose the brutalities of the Indian occupying forces.

Pakistan has been in contact through diplomatic and backdoor channels with a number of countries, particularly Islamic world powers, as part of its efforts to garner support on the Kashmir crisis and to force the Indian government to lift curfew in the occupied valley.
