KARACHI:
A few days before Cyclone Phet was due to hit, the Sindh government ordered advertising companies to remove all hoardings. This move was necessary as the last time a storm hit the city several people who had taken shelter under billboards lost their lives. But in most places only the cloth on the billboards was removed and not the whole structure, as in the heavy steel frames remained. Had the cyclone actually stuck Karachi, things could have turned very nasty for people out in the streets and looking for shelter.
