Bollywood star Sushmita Sen, who has over four million followers on Instagram, revealed that she joined the social media platform due to a health scare.

In a recent interview with Rajeev Masand on Women We Love, Sushmita said, "I was very, very sick and I had hair that was falling. I had become moon-faced and I had steroid deposits. During this time, a thought crossed my mind: If this does kill me, people will never know who I was. So, one night, I just got on to Instagram and opened that page," reported The Hindustan Times.

The beauty queen, who is best known for her roles in films such as Main Hoon Na, Biwi No 1 and Aankhen, debuted on Instagram in 2016.

But it seems that Sushmita has more than gotten the hang of the photo-sharing site. The 43-year-old is currently quite active on social media and frequently shares updates from her life, including that of her daughters, Renee and Alisah, and her boyfriend Rohman Shawl.

Recently, she celebrated 25 years of her winning the Miss Universe title. Naturally, she marked the event by posting a photograph of a cake decorated with a tiara via Instagram. She captioned it, “My kinda celebration. Had no idea of this beyond adorable surprise! All heart and some off-key singing. Thank you my Rooh Rohman Shawl, Maa... my angels Renee and Alisah for making the Miss Universe 1994, Silver Jubilee celebration, everything I could ever wish for."

Soical media users will also find Sushmita frequently finding a spot on the list of trends following her mushy posts featuring Rohman, who is a fashion model. The star frequently shares personal snippets of their workout routines as they often exercise together.  The mother also shares her daughter's achievements and details of their school activities.

The stunner made her mark in Bollywood back in 1996, two years after she won the Miss Universe title in the Philippines. Her first film was Dastak, which she followed up with movies such as Sirf Tum, Chingaari, Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, Filhaal, Vaastu Shastra and Do Knot Disturb to name a few.

Sushmita was last seen in the Bengali film Nirbaak and hasn't announced her next project yet. Needless to say however, she seems to be quite on her Instagram game!
