RAWALPINDI: A couple literally took the plunge on Saturday as the bike they were escaping on fell in a nullah in Rawalpindi.

The injured youth were under treatment in a hospital, police said.

According to police, Azhar Mehmood filed a report at the Chauntra police station that his daughter has gone missing. He told the police that when members of his family woke up for Sehri on Saturday, they found their 20-year old daughter missing from her charpoy. Distressed they started searching for, when a neighbour, Azhar Khan, informed them that he had seen a young man called Asif Ali drive away with her on a motorbike.

The couple could not get far, however, as Ali in his hurry to get away, lost control of his motorcycle at a high speed. The bike swerved and fell into a nullah.

As it was time for sehri, people heard the couple's cries for help and called for an ambulance. The injured but safe couple was transported to a nearby hospital.

The young woman's father alleged that Ali had made false promises to his daughter and kidnapped her. He also expressed displeasure at the young man's reckless driving that caused the accident and injured his daughter.

Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
