An infant died due to the alleged negligence of staff and doctors at Government Sardar Begum Teaching Hospital in Sialkot, Express News has learnt.
The victim’s relatives said 22-year-old B*, a resident of Bijli Mohallah, was pregnant and was brought to the hospital for delivery. When the woman started suffering labour pains, her family asked the medical staff to call the doctor.
However, the woman doctor on duty did not examine the woman and told her family that there was time for the delivery. B* returned home and again started experiencing pain again. The family brought her back to the health facility where the same doctor declared that the baby had already died.
This heartbroken family protested against the behaviour and negligence of the doctor and hospital staff. They demanded that authorities take strict action against the doctor for committing negligence.
When contacted, Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Azam Ibrahim said previous complaints had been lodged against the gynae ward staff in the past.” “I have ordered an inquiry into the incident and stern action will be taken against the doctor and staff if they are found guilty of negligence.”
In a similar incident on February 5, an infant lost his life due to the negligence of staff and doctors at District Headquarter Hospital in Lodhran.
A*, a resident of Lodhran City, was pregnant and brought to the hospital for delivery. The woman was admitted to the gynae ward, however, the staff told them that there was no doctor available at the health facility.
After some time, the family of the woman managed to contact the lady doctor on the phone. The doctor refused to come to the hospital despite the family’s repeated requests. The victim’s family protested against the hospital staff.
When the situation worsened, the medical superintendent of the DHQ Hospital reached the facility and conducted the woman’s operation.
However, the infant could not survive and died before birth due to the delay.
