ISLAMABAD: As part of its efforts to improve the health of students, the federal government has decided to hold a medicine administration day to counter intestinal worms, “Mega Dose Administration Day” on January 31, in state-run schools of the federal capital.

According to the sources, a recent survey of Planning Commission and the World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed that children of some 40 districts across the country face nutritional issues due to the presence of intestinal worms.

These worms cause children to suffer from stomach ache, loss of appetite, lethargy along with being inattentive in classrooms.

The one-day campaign will target an estimated 570,000 children between the ages of five and 15-.

For this purpose, the WHO has provided stocks of the drug Vermox.
