JPMC staff celebrate its federal status

Professors of JSMU assure the students that they will not be deprived of teaching hospitals

KARACHI: After the judicial orders of handing over the three government hospitals of Karachi to Federal government, employees, administration and staff members at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) were seen celebrating and congratulating each other. The professors of Jinnah Sindh Medical University assured the students that they will not be deprived of teaching hospitals.

The control of JPMC, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH) was handed over to the Centre after Supreme Court rejected Sindh government's appeals on January 16. Professors, doctors, nurses, employees and paramedical staff participated in the celebrations, in which they distributed sweets to each other.

Professors said that the employees were extremely happy about all three hospitals being handed over to the Federal government. They said that they had been deprived of their legal rights since eight years and had been waiting patiently. The employees and staff members were hopeful that the vacant seats will now be filled under the administration of the federal government and performance of the hospitals will also be improved.

Furthermore, issues of promotions and shortage of staff will be resolved. The employees said that they weren't part of the 18th Amendment and were wrongly placed under the Sindh government. The professors ascertained that JSMU will remain the teaching hospital of students until arrangements are made otherwise. Students will avail facilities provided by JSMU till then. The doctors and paramedical staff also thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan on this occasion.the administration of the federal government
