A former police official was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Okara, Express News reported on Tuesday.
A police official said that 50-year-old former assistant sub-inspector Munawwar, a resident of Chak No 429-GB, at his dera when armed suspects in a car reached the spot and opened indiscriminate fire.
Munawwar sustained multiple bullet injuries and was killed on the spot while the outlaws managed to escape. Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the scene and shifted the body to a local hospital for legal formalities. Police also gathered evidence from the spot for analysis.
Police said the victim had been terminated from the police force a few days ago. However, the exact motive behind the killing will be ascertained after investigations, police added. A case had been registered at the police station while further investigation was under way.
Earlier, a police constable lost his life while a suspect was killed during a shootout in Khanewal.
Police said that they received information about the presence of an absconding robber identified as Mumtaz Saho. The robber was a resident of Chak No 173 and was released from the jail a few days ago. In order to get hold of the deadly convict, Chab Kalan SHO Chaudhry Zulfiqar Gujjar formed a team of plain dressed policemen comprising of ASI Muhammad Nawaz, Constable Muhammad Iqbal and a police volunteer Javed.
As the raiding party tried to arrest Mumtaz Saho, his accomplices Shakil and others reached the spot and opened fire on the police, instantly killing Police Constable Iqbal.
Police retaliated and an encounter took place. During the retaliation, accused Shakil was killed, while the others escaped under the cover of fire.
