KARACHI: The President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi has called for the promotion of healthy social and cultural activities for awareness among youth about the rich and versatile culture of the country. He appreciated the Sindh Governor for arranging different socio-cultural events in the Governor’s House and hoped for more literary and cultural activities.

He said this while talking to media at the Harley-Davidson bikes exhibition at the Governor's House on Sunday. The exhibition of vintage and classic Harley-Davidson bikes was held with the support of Distinguished Bike Lovers Club. The event was organised at Governor's House in which more than 50 vintage and classic Harley-Davidson motorcycles from across Pakistan were showcased.

With regards to development projects, Dr Alvi said that they couldn’t take place in the presence of tensions between the Sindh and the federal governments. He said that they did not want to establish governor’s rule in Sindh. He further added that the Centre was trying to end the tensions as they wanted the federal and provincial governments to work together. The cooperation that was expected from Sindh government has not been delivered yet. He lauded the federal government and said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan has visited foreign countries and strengthened relations with them. No past government has performed as much as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has performed,” he claimed. “PTI’s government has set its direction in the first 100 days. We have been beautifying, and clearing the litter and smoke.”

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, along with PTI MPA Haleem Adil Sheikh and others were present on the occasion. Dr Alvi said, “I came here on the invitation of the Sindh Governor today. I have seen bikes together in such a big number for the first time. It’s a positive step in the propagation of healthy activities. Citizens also need to know about these types of healthy socio-cultural activities.”

Ismail said that the Governor’s House’s no-go area has been opened for public. “Efforts like this have never been made previously,” he said, adding that a three-day ceremony related to literature, books, education and other quality entertainment will be organised in the Governor’s House soon.

Like everywhere else in the world, the city of Karachi has a large number of vintage and classic bike lovers. Vintage and classic bikes ranging from Harley-Davidson 1200 – 3500 remained the centre of attraction; and the visitors could be seen taking selfies with these bikes in the background. “We used to enjoy sight of such bikes in movies, pictures and on the internet. I am elated to be part of the festival,” said a visitor.

The Sindh Governor appreciated the spirit of bike lovers and the attachment they had with the bikes. He said that such events provide an opportunity to the people to witness how well old and classic bikes can be kept and used.
