At least 12 injured by aerial firing on New Year’s Eve in Karachi
Police failed to prevent incidents of aerial firing despite directives from police chief
KARACHI:
At least 12 people were injured due to aerial firing in different parts of the metropolis despite directives to the police to prevent such incidents on New Year's Eve.
The injured included 22-year-old Hamza, who was shifted to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) from Cantt Station, an apartment guard in Joharabad area, 25-year-old Dilshad at Old Subzimandi, 40-year-old Mohsin was injured near Ferozabad and 25-year-old Deen Muhammad fell prey to a stray bullet in Ranchor Lines.
Ishaq, 45, received a bullet injury to the head and was shifted to Sindh Government Hospital in Liaquatabad while 25-year-old Noman was taken to Landi Kotal Chowrangi Hospital after receiving bullets wounds to his leg.

A child, seven-year-old Shafi, was injured near Ayesha Manzil and received medical care at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Naveed, 16, and 24-year-old Waseem and 22-year-old Waleed were also wounded due to aerial firing.
Meanwhile, the year 2019 also saw its first police encounter when Steel Town police exchanged fire with suspected robbers. As a result, two suspects were arrested as police seized weapons and motorcycle from their possession.
Police claimed the suspects were involved in street crimes and were being probed.
