KARACHI: Railway's special squad apprehended over 650 ticket-less passengers in Karachi, in a week-long crackdown against the menace of ticketless travelling.

The special raiding teams of Karachi Railway Division carried out surprise checks on various trains during the last seven days and caught 655 ticketless passengers and recovered Rs 341,570 as fare and penalty.

According to the divisional superintendent (DS) Railways, the raids were conducted under the supervision of the divisional commercial officer (DCO).

The trains checked were Karakoram Express, Bolan Mail, Pakistan Express, Tezgam, Shah Rukn-e-Alam Express, Mehran Express, Sukkur Express, Qalander Express and Khushhal Khan Khattak Express.

On the directive of the DS, dining cars were also inspected by officials to ensure that hygienic food was served to passengers. Railway authorities have taken strict notice of complaints from people about serving of sub-standard food on trains despite the high prices.
