Raiwind congregation: Police finalises security plan

DIG says 3,000 policemen will be deployed under supervision of 36 inspectors

LAHORE: Lahore Police has finalised the security plan for the second phase of the Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtama which started on Friday. This the religious event will conclude on Sunday (tomorrow).

Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations Lahore (DIG) Waqas Nazir said that at least 3,000 police officials will be deployed under the supervision of 36 inspectors, 12 DSP and three SPs to perform duties in three shifts.

Three-layered security will be ensured. Every participant is supposed to pass through physical frisking, checking with metal detectors and passing walkthrough gates to enter the gathering, according to the plan. The roads leading towards the venue and the route will be cordoned off by using tents, barbed wires and containers. Men in civvies will also be deployed.

Snipers will be deployed on high rooftops to keep an eye on suspicious persons or activities. The gatherings will also be monitored through CCTV cameras of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).

Teams of Police Response Unit and Dolphin Squad will also remain on patrol in nearby areas to monitor suspicious activities and respond in case of any emergency. Senior police officers will also be at hand to review security arrangements.

The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has also finalised the plan. According to it, extra wardens will be deployed on the occasion. Specific parking points will be established. Parking without specified points will not be allowed.
