KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior convener Amir Khan was identified as a key suspect in a case pertaining to providing refuge to terrorists at the then-party headquarters Nine Zero.

Khan was identified by a senior official of the Sindh Rangers during a hearing at an anti-terrorism court in Central Jail, Karachi.

In his statement, the Rangers official detailed the security operation carried out by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) at Nine-Zero on March 11, 2015. Khan had been arrested from Khursheed Memorial Hall in the raid and was granted bail after four months in jail.

A number of convicted and wanted suspects, such as Faisal Mahmood alias Mota, who was condemned to death for killing journalist Wali Khan Babar, Ubaid Khursheed alias K2, who was wanted for a number of high-profile policemen murders, and Noman alias Nomi, the key absconding suspect in Advocate Naimat Ali Randhawa murder case, were also apprehended during the raid.

According to Sindh Police, Khan and others were booked for providing shelter to terrorists at the party HQ. Cases were lodged against the suspects at Azizabad Police Station.

Khan appeared before the bench while jail officials presented Minhaj Qazi and alleged target killer Raees Mama.

After the day’s proceedings, the court directed defence counsel Shaukat Hayat to present arguments in the next hearing fixed on October 22.
