Suspects Sofikul Islam, Nuhu and Najimul Sheikh held the boy upside down and beat him with batons till the skin on his back was torn apart. Another kicked the boy as he begged for mercy.

Islam, a grocer, filmed the torture and later uploaded the video on Facebook. He removed the video after it drew flak.

Police claimed to have nabbed the suspects following a complaint by the boy's father. The victim has been taken to a hospital. Police said they found no evidence of the alleged theft.

“My son did not steal any money. He was tortured solely on mere suspicion. He can barely move now. I want stern punishment for all the accused,” the boy's father Sanwar Sheikh said.
