Five die after suffering from gastro, jaundice in RY Khan

At least five more people died due to jaundice and gastroenteritis, while 16 others, including three minors suffering from such diseases, were admitted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital over the past 24 hours in Rahim Yar Khan.

On the rise: Gastro epidemic claims another minor

The total number of casualties since the outbreak has crossed 80, data collected by Express News revealed.

Health officials at Sheikh Zayed Hospital said that 75-year-old Muhammad Shareef, 40-year-old Talib Hussain, 70-year-old Asmatullah, 60-year-old Abdul Hameed and two-year-old Sadaf Bibi  were admitted to the health facility in critical conditions after suffering from jaundice and gastro. However, their condition continued to deteriorate and they later died at the hospital.


The bodies of the victims were handed over to their families after legal formalities. Meanwhile, 16 people infected with gastro and jaundice were also admitted to the health facility. The patients included three minors. The patients were identified as two-year-old Muhammad Imran, 25-year-old Zarina Bibi, 29-year-old Saima Bibi, 35-year-old Umar Aziz, 32-year-old Abdul Hameed and others.

Jaundice and gastro epidemics hit Rahim Yar Khan earlier in May and resulted in the deaths of more than 80 patients, including children.

Currently, the entire district is plagued by the two diseases. Most government-run hospitals lack adequate facilities and medicines to treat patients.
