All set to expand nutrition programme: health secretary

Says number of deaths caused by malnutrition in seven districts has decreased due to the campaign

QUETTA: Balochistan Health Secretary Saleh Nasir has said preparations for expansion of the nutrition programme to 24 districts are complete as the provincial government is keen to eliminate malnutrition in the province.

Addressing a workshop conducted to discuss the provincial nutrition programme in Quetta, the health secretary said, “After successful results in seven districts, the provincial government has decided to expand the nutrition programme to 24 districts to save mothers and children from malnutrition.
“The number of deaths caused by malnutrition in Kohlu, Panjgur, Qilla Saifullah, Noshki and Kharan has decreased while the ratio of children deaths has dropped to 23 per cent in the last 10 years.”
Nasir said the expansion of the programme would be approved during the cabinet session.
