KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered on Thursday the Sindh inspector-general (IG) of police to form a committee for the recovery of missing children.
The court also directed the police to employ latest techniques to ensure the recovery of children as early as possible.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, heard the matter. Justice Phulpoto asked why an FIR should not be lodged against SHOs of police stations, within the limits of which the children went missing.
Counsels for the plaintiffs maintained that of the 36 missing children, 13 had been recovered and 24 were still missing. The SHC was informed that four-year old Bisma disappeared from Korangi No 5 on June 5 while 12-year old Muneera was missing since three years.

No more patience can be shown in the case of missing children, the bench remarked. The SHC directed the IG to form a committee under a DIG to ensure early recovery of missing children.
Seeking a report from the police, the court adjourned the hearing for three weeks.

The SHC also gave time till September 18 to the commanding officer concerned to submit a report after completing investigations for recovery of missing persons, including a Pakistan Navy officer, Imran Yousuf.
During Thursday's proceedings, Justice Phulpoto lamented that police officers were not even sharing facts pertaining to missing persons. We are not aware of investigations regarding people who are frisked away, the judge remarked. "This is a court of law and it deserves to know all the facts."
Two STP workers whisked away from outside court
The investigation officer informed the court that the authorities had also sought help from private persons for the recovery of the missing naval officer. The SHC was also informed that people who were initially suspected of whisking away Yousuf were not found guilty.
The SHC ordered the investigation and commanding officers to present a report on the investigation by September 18.
