LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan on Tuesday said there was the only way to reach our goals — and that was to evaluate our weaknesses and failures. He urged the nation to learn a lesson from the past to see Pakistan on the road to progress.

He expressed these views while addressing participants at a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Punjab Assembly on the 71st Independence Day of the country.

He said Pakistan was a country with rich natural resources which could be made stronger by taking benefit of this fact. He said the people would have to play a role in the elimination of the enemies of the country.

Speaking about the sacrifices of Pakistanis, he said that “We will not let the sacrifice of our elders, who laid down their lives in the struggle of Pakistan, go in vain”.

“With our unity, we will foil every conspiracy hatched by our enemies to derail Pakistan. Our enemies were defeated in a war against terror,” he remarked.

The speaker said the nation would have to avoid repeating past mistakes in order to reach its goal and destination. “Being the citizens of Pakistan, we should celebrate our Independence Day with traditional enthusiasm. We need to flourish brotherhood. We will have to work in light of the principles of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to put our country on the path of progress.”

He also emphasised that every citizen should play their role in the country’s progress if they wanted to see a stronger Pakistan.
