A Canadian man legally changed his sex to avail of the benefits of cheaper car insurance rates offered to women.

“I didn’t feel like getting screwed over any more,” the man identified as David in the country's Alberta province told CBC this week.

Alberta is one of the several provinces where residents can legally change the sex on their birth certificates without evidence of genital surgery.

“It was pretty simple. I just basically asked for it and told (the doctor) that I identify as a woman, or I’d like to identify as a woman, and he wrote me the letter I wanted,” he informed CBC.

David relayed that now he has to pay $3423 instead of $4517.

“I am now a woman. I pay $1,100 less for auto insurance. I won. The end,” he wrote on Reddit.

Men generally pay higher car insurance rates because they have a higher accident rate.
