LAHORE:

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday took serious notice of the non submission of replies by the federal government and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a petition challenging the functioning of Rana Zahid Mehmood as director general (DG) of NAB allegedly after his contract had expired.

The bench gave the NAB lawyers a last opportunity to reply by Thursday otherwise the court would decide the case on merit.

NAB deputy prosecutor Mian Bashir and consultant Mian Hanif Tahir appeared before the bench and sought three weeks’ time to file the reply. They said the reply had not been prepared so far.

Justice Sheikh Ahmad Farooq expressed his displeasure with the attitude of the NAB. He rejected their plea and directed them to file their replies on Thursday. The petition was filed by Shah Faisal Qureshi seeking directions for Mehmood not to act as NAB DG after his contract had expired.
