Pakistani celebs lend support to Jibran Nasir for upcoming elections

The slogan 'Hum Mein Se Aik' represents Nasir and everything he stands for in society

KARACHI:
"We’re entertainers, we’re actors. We are not politicians. It’s not our job to talk about social issues," Mahira Khan said in a recent interview. However, when it came to who she will be voting for in the upcoming general elections, the Raees actor picked Jibran Nasir in a heartbeat, after the human rights activist announced that he will be contesting the upcoming general elections from Karachi.

Unsurprisingly, it's not just Mahira who will be voting for Jibran this year. Many other celebs have some forward and pledged their support for the 'Azaad Umeedwaar,' who is running for elections the second time around.

Celebrities such as Osman Khalid Butt, Mansha Pasha and many others have taken social media by storm, giving rise to an unlikely campaign for Jibran titled, Hum Mein Se Aik. The slogan represents the hopeful candidate and everything he claims to stand for.

Osman expressed his admiration for Jibran by posting, "Coming soon to a constituency near you, Karachi. Hum Mein Se Aik is not just a campaign slogan for Jibran Nasir: it's who he is. He represents the people; he stands for them. This July 25, vote wisely."

Sporting a plain white T-shirt with the same slogan, Mansha of Chalay The Saath fame also made sure to get her message across.

Other celebs such as Anoushey Ashraf, Dino Ali, Maria Wasti, Bushra Ansari, Mira Sethi, Kami Sid, Sarmad Khoosat and others have also decided to vote for Jibran later this month.

When asked about the multiple celebrity endorsements, Jibran said he was grateful. "The campaign is about what I wish to bring to people. It's about what I stand for and how I've conducted my activism for the last five years or so," he told The Express Tribune. "This is just a teaser of the campaign. We have a song about it as well. It'll be released either on Thursday or Friday."

He continued, "Hum Mein Se Aik is about how ordinary I am; how I literally am for the people, for the people. My campaign doesn't just have actors, it has activists and labourers. It's about how these influential personalities are supporting me and my ideology for Pakistan. It's about how I come from a very ordinary background, without any party affiliation or sources."

"Since I am coming from the general public, as an independent candidate, I am sure people will find me relatable. We're not making a cult, we're just a group of people untied for a better tomorrow," Jibran said.

A lawyer by profession, he is at the forefront in a number of cases being heard in different courts. Jibran is also part of the legal team representing the father of Naqeebullah Mehsud, killed in a fake encounter by former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and his team in Karachi, the Khadija Siddiqui assault case and a counsel in Shahrukh Jatoi's case as well.
