KARACHI: Rights activist Muhammad Jibran Nasir said on Tuesday he will be contesting the upcoming general elections from Karachi.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Nasir confirmed that he will file his nomination papers as an independent candidate for National Assembly’s NA-247 and provincial assembly’s PS-111 – previously NA-250 and PS-113. Nasir had contested and lost from the same seats in 2013’s general elections. “Although I am filing for both the constituencies, I will eventually contest from either one.”

Dwelling on the filing process, Nasir echoed Lahore High Court (LHC)’s decision that the nomination papers drafted by the Parliament did not include mandatory information and declarations such as their educational background, criminal record or if they are dual nationals that should be required from the aspiring lawmakers.
Nasir said he planned to attach all the relevant documents including financial and tax statements with the nomination papers.

A lawyer by profession, Nisar is at the forefront in a number of cases being heard in different courts. He is also part of the legal team representing the father of Naqeebullah Mehsud, killed in a fake encounter by former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and his team in Karachi, Khadija Siddiqui assault case and a counsel in Shahrukh Jatoi
He was also one of the petitioners who moved Supreme Court against a Sindh High Court decision setting aside Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC)'s conviction of Shahrukh Jatoi and three others in Shahzeb Khan murder case.
